Sugar Contributes to Aging

Victor Zammit, head of cell biochemistry at the Hannah Research Institute in Ayr, Scotland believes that the road to Syndrome X starts when we have frequent high sugar snacks, which expose the liver to insulin for long periods of time, eventually making it insulin resistant. Even more dangerous than refined white sugar (sucrose) is the high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) that is sweeter and cheaper. It is finding its way into processed foods particularly soft drinks and fruit drinks. It is especially dangerous to men since fructose was found to raise blood levels of triglyceride by a massive 32 percent. Fructose is dangerous because it is metabolized to fat in the liver.  It has been suggested that the addition of fructose into processed foods that already contain sucrose increases its damage on the body by many multiples. If this is true then it could account for much of the increase in disease in the young, since the increase in HFCS between 1970 and 1990 is more than 1000 percent.

Sugar is a generic term used to identify simple carbohydrates, including monosaccharides such as fructose, glucose and galactose; and disaccharides such as maltose and sucrose (white sugar).

One in five obese adolescents under the age of 18 in the US has impaired glucose tolerance – a precursor to type 2 diabetes. Also, sadly, 25 percent of obese children under 10 have pre-adult onset type 2 diabetes

Sugar Feeds Cancer

Remedy: Eat natural foods, and exercise regularly.

The 1931 Nobel laureate in medicine Otto Warburg PhD, discovered that malignant tumours frequently show an increase in anaerobic glycolysis, a process in which cancer cells use glucose as a fuel, with lactic acid as an anaerobic by product. This large amount of lactic acid is transported to the liver, which generates a more acidic pH. This process is inefficient for energy metabolism, and the patient becomes tired, and undernourished – possibly dying of malnutrition.

Patrick Quillin tells of a female cancer patient at his clinic, in her 50’s with lung cancer, who had been given a death sentence by her oncologist. After changing her diet drastically and leaving out 90 percent of the sugar she used to eat, while still receiving some traditional fractionated chemotherapy, she was still disease free 5 years after this treatment.

Sugar suppresses the immune system.

Remedy: Honey contains many minerals and vitamins that strengthen the immune system.

75 grams of sugar will significantly depress immune function in adults. 100 grams of sugar dramatically reduces the ability of lyphocytes to engulf bacteria.

Shortly after eating sugar, these effects occur, and this immune suppression lasts for up to 5 hours. If you want a good healthy immune system, delete, or very severely minimize your sugar intake.

Sugar substitutes linked to brain tumors

Remedy: Never touch sugar substitutes- found in diet drinks and many processed foods.

The main sugar substitute is aspartame. This is used by millions of people under the name of NutraSweet and Equal. People make the incorrect assumption that this will help control their weight. Aspartame is used in thousands of products such as diet coke, yogurt, and many over the counter medicines, to name a few.

The FDA approved aspartame, even though, in 1981, Satya Dubey, a FDA statistician, stated that the brain tumour data on aspartame was so “worrisome” that he could not recommend approval of NutraSweet. 85 percent of all complaints registered with the FDA are for adverse reactions to aspartame, including five reported deaths.

Adverse Reactions to Aspartame

In a two-year study conducted by the manufacturer of aspartame, twelve of the 320 rats fed a normal diet and aspartame developed brain tumours while none of the control rats had tumours. In the book, While Waiting: A Prenatal Guidebook by George Verrilli, MD, and Anne Marie Mueser, they stated that aspartame is suspected of causing brain damage in sensitive individuals, and foetuses are especially at risk. Research conducted by H.J.Roberts, a diabetes specialist showed that aspartame “Leads to the precipitation of clinical diabetes, causes poorer diabetic control in diabetics on insulin or oral drugs, leads to the aggravation of diabetic complications such as retinopathy, cataracts, neuropathy and gastroparesis, and causes convulsions”.

Remember: if you want to sweeten anything the safest, most nutritious and natural product to use is unprocessed honey.
