Our days are hectic and we always seem to be searching for more time. How many times have your heard someone say they are too tired or just don’t have the energy to do something? Often we look for a short term fix such as an energy drink or a cup of coffee to get us through. You do have other options, there are ways to increase your energy naturally. With energy drinks and coffee there is often a resulting crash after the caffeine and other stimulants have worn off. When increasing our energy through natural means we don’t have to worry about a crash later in the day.
Here are eight things you can do to make a positive impact on your daily energy levels.
- Head outside You’ve been sitting in an office all day, no sunlight and sitting in front of a computer. If you can step away for ten minutes and get outside for a walk you’ll find yourself more alert and with more energy for the rest of your work day. It’s amazing what a little sun and fresh air can do for us.
- Listen to music Sometimes listening to your favorite music can motivate and give you a boost of energy. Stick some headphones on and listen to some of your favorite music for a few minutes.
- Stay away from sugar While a candy bar may give you a quick boost of energy, the resulting crash is going to leave you feeling even more tired. Instead opt for a handful of almonds and a piece of cheese or something similar.
- Drink water It’s easy to get dehydrated. Our days are hectic and we can not always remember to drink water. Keep a bottle of water nearby and take drinks from it frequently. When we don’t have enough water our bodies become sluggish and have a hard time keeping up with our demmands.
- Take a nap Sometimes a short thirty minute nap can do wonders for us. Just enough time to quite or minds and allow our bodies to take a break.
- Sleep well If we can get a good nights sleep and let our body rest and rejuvenate we will have much more energy to tackle the next day with plenty of energy. Too often we cut ourselves short and don’t get a full nights sleep. Sleeping well is one of the best things we can do for both our physical and mental health.
- Smaller more frequent meals As we’ve mentioned before on this blog, eating smaller more frequent meals has several advantages. One advantage that we can receive from this is more energy. When we eat three large meals a day we can become quite sleepy shortly after the meal. By eating six or so smaller meals we are not flooding our bodies with excess food and are able to stay more alert.
- Regular exercise By exercising regularly we are keeping our bodies in top shape. It may sound counter-intuitive to exercise for more energy but it’s very true. As anyone who can tell you that exercises regularly, you will have more energy. When you take care of your body it will take care of you.
You owe it to yourself to give these eight things a try. They are all very easy to implement and cost you nothing. Give them a try for thirty days, I am sure at the end of that time you will see a noticeable increase in your daily energy levels.
