The famous brand which is known as high desert bee pollen is proud of the fact that this is 100% American bee pollen and that there is no risk at all that it may have been imported from China or Asian countries. This is very important and a great plus for the product.
The reason for this is that imported honey or bee products in general are liable to have the following problems:-
- polluted countryside
- bees exposed to chemicals, toxins and contaminants
- no control over beekeepers
- little or no control against adulteration of honey
The other plus for high desert bee pollen is that it is not heat dried like much of the imported honey. Some of imported honey has even been irradiated and that means that the quality of nutrients is liable to suffer. That means a poor quality product.
But the plus points for high desert bee pollen end there. As there is no indication on the packet about where the bee pollen is harvested, I cannot give them the benefit of the doubt. High desert could be anywhere and it may just be the name of the product rather than the provenance of the raw material.
Here are some suggestions about how and where you can find a superior type of bee pollen.
I always want to know exactly where the bee pollen is harvested. In America, there are various problems with certain honey producing areas. There is more and more pressure on foraging areas as residential building and cash farming increases.
In some of the great honey producing states such as Idaho, Wyoming and Montana, there has been a decline in the bee population which is a reflection of the worldwide problem. There has also been cold and very wet weather which has affected the quality of the bee pollen and the actual amount of production.
Now in New Zealand , in the South Island, there are no industrial areas and bee foraging areas are close to the nature reserve there. In addition, the cleanest air in the world blows in from the South Pole. I do not think you could ask for a cleaner environment!
This bee pollen is also superior in the fact that all the processing is strictly controls and that GMP practices are followed. These are all clearly stated on the website.
This is why I recommend looking carefully at where the bee pollen comes from. High desert bee pollen may meet some of the requirements in that it is 100% American but that is as far as it goes. The other essential information is not readily available.
