Myopia can be classified into pseudomyopia, true myopia and mixed myopia. Pseudomyopia refers to an intermittent and temporary shift in refraction of the eye towards myopia, in which the focusing of light in front of the retina is due to a transient spasm of the ciliary muscle causing an increase in the refractive power of the eye. It may be either organic, through stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, or functional in origin, through eye strain or fatigue of ocular systems. It is common in young adults.
The major symptom of pseudomyopia is intermittent blurring of distance vision particularly noticeable after prolonged periods of near work, and symptoms of asthenopia. You can get temporary clear vision through concave lenses. If you want to know whether you are suffering from pseudomyopia or true myopia, you can diagnose the diopter through a strong cycloplegic like atropine or homatropine eye drops. Accommodative amplitude and facility may be reduced as a result of the ciliary muscle spasm.
The pseudomyopia is the beginning stage of the true myopia. If the pseudomyopic patients don’t take some measures to avoid the development, they will become true myopia which is irreversible. If you just find yourself suffering from blurry vision, you shouldn’t wear the glasses immediately. There are some methods for you recover your vision to normal state.
After prompt treatment and attention to the protection, the ciliary muscle will relax and visual acuity may return to normal.
