Hair loss and thyroid disease

It has been proved medically that thyroid diseases are intricately related to hair loss. For thyroid patients there could be three conditions that they face.

  • Hyperthyroidism – this is caused when there is an overproduction of thyroid hormones.
  • Hypothyroidism – this is caused when there is less production of thyroid hormones.
  • Thyroid cancer – this is caused due to the growth of tumors in the thyroid gland.

Whatever thyroid diseases one is suffering from the problem they face is hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalance can create havoc with the bodily systems and when someone is suffering from thyroid diseases it can result into many complications other than hair loss. But hair loss is one prominent result of thyroid diseases and we all know that losing hair may cause someone to lose their confidence and personality. Hence, appropriate treatment is always recommended.

For all these three types of thyroid diseases there are specific medicines that one needs to take. Sometimes it is the side effects of these medicines that can cause hair loss. This is a time when you get an evaluation done by your physician. If it is the medicine that is causing hair loss then you must stop hair loss by switching to another medicine. There are plenty of medicines that can cure thyroid problems and yet not make you lose your hair and you can always check them out.

If you are facing hair loss hyperthyroidism or hair loss hypothyroidism or hair loss thyroid cancer then it sometimes makes sense to be patient for a while. Sometimes hair loss due to these thyroid diseases starts off at an early stage and then subsides after a while. So, your physician may advise you to do nothing for a while and continue with the treatment. But if you see that there is no abatement in your hair loss then you should inform your physician about it.

There are plenty of hair loss solutions for thyroid patients and you need not lose heart when you are losing hair due to thyroid diseases. Your physician should be able to treat you in a manner so that both your thyroid disease and hair loss get treated together. Even if there is no stopping hair loss even when you have changed the treatment process and tried out all the medicines there are ways through which you can sport a head full of hair. Hair from other parts of the body can be transplanted to the bald areas and no one will feel that you actually lost hair.
